  • Jersey City Child Development Centers, Inc. Head Start has provided Head Start services to children and families in Jersey City for forty years.

JCCDC’s Head Start program offers a comprehensive early childhood education curriculum.  In addition, health, nutrition, dental, disabilities, mental health, transportation, parent involvement and social services are offered to enrolled families.  These services are designed to prepare children for life.  In accordance with the Head Start mission, JCCDC’s Head Start program is a holistic family development program funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  All Head Start program services are free to eligible, low-income families.

The Head Start program services in Jersey City is funded to serve 712 children at seventeen facilities within the city.  At least, ten percent of funded enrollment is reserved for children with disabilities.

Our program offers two pre-school program options:  1) Part-Day: Programming of six hours per day, and five days a week. 2)  Full Day: Programming of over six hours per day, and five days per week.

Both of JCCDC’s program options aim to strengthen the ability of the children it serves to cope with school and their environment.  The skills which all children learn through their Head Start experiences will set the foundation for future educational experiences.  These experiences will enable children to enjoy early success and sustain knowledge.

Children in our Head Start program develop problem-solving and socialization skills.

Children gain more self-confidence with several opportunities to make decisions.

Children receive program services in safe and nurturing environment.

Parents are invited and encouraged to provide input into center activities and are always welcome.

Head Start recognizes the value of parent involvement and realizes that parents are the primary educators of their children.

Our Head Start program is committed to building partnerships with families.  Through these partnerships, JCCDC provides resources, through referrals, which families can access to meet dynamic challenges.

The program offers limited transportation services to some centers.  Feel free to visit or call any of JCCDC’s centers.
